Today, we’re going to take a look at Audyssey’s Lower East Side Media Speakers, a pair of incredible, mind blowing speakers in a minimal, unique package. I was super excited to test these out, and they certainly held up to my expectations. Not to mention, Audyssey was kind enough to let us give away one pair of these speakers to a lucky winner. You can check out all the contest details here!

While Audyssey was kind enough to send us a pair of these speakers to review (and to give away!), it doesn’t change my thoughts or ratings in this review. Pinky promise!

First off, I want to talk about design. I love the minimalistic design that Audyssey implemented into the Media Speakers. The simple controls and hardware really blend in with their surroundings, which is always a plus. These aren’t flimsy speakers, either. All of the materials are extremely solid, and the speakers have a reassuring weight. All of the included cables (speaker, 3.5mm, and power) are sturdy as well.

Set up was an incredibly simple process. The speaker wire was already stripped on each end, and the outlets are pretty self-evident. If you’re not confident in your ability to connect a grand total of 3 different wires, Audyssey includes a helpful quick start guide. Not included is the optical digital cable, but chances are you probably already have one if you’re planning on using this feature. From the time I opened the box to the point that I was playing music, only around a minute had passed.

Let’s talk audio quality. I’m going to be honest, I’m a little disappointed by the fact that the Audyssey Lower East Side Media Speakers make my primary stereo with JBL speaker cabinets sound like a Happy Meal toy. It’s really amazing that speakers so small and compact have such a big sound. The speakers can reach their massive full volume without any distortion or degraded sound quality. Let’s put it this way- my 300W stereo has met its match.

A huge new feature that you won’t find anywhere else is Audyssey’s bass technology. The Lower East Side Media Speakers employ passive bass radiators that eliminate the need for subwoofers, and the bass response is phenomenal. The integrated BassXT will ensure that there’s no distortion on the low ends with no artificial boosting. I can’t emphasize how amazing the bass response on these speakers is, especially with passive woofers.

Overall, I don’t have any complaints with the sound quality of the speakers. The bass is, as I mentioned, unbelievable, and the high end is crisp and clean. There’s no “muddiness,” and they’re a joy to listen to.

To conserve energy, the speakers will automatically switch to standby mode after a period of time, and to bring them back to life, just push the power buttons/volume knob. I particularly like this feature because I can put my iPod on a sleep timer and let it play without worrying about running the speakers all night after I’ve fallen asleep.

I’m going to be honest- I tried to find something wrong with Audyssey’s Lower East Side Media Speakers. I’m always hesitant to give a product a perfect 10 score, but I really don’t have any critiques with the speakers. Even with a price tag of $249.99, I would highly recommend these speakers to everyone. They’re stylish, well constructed, and high quality. With their minimal design, they’re sure to match any office set up. You can purchase your very own set of Lower East Side Media Speakers directly from Audyssey here.
